Andean or Peruvian opal is formed at low temperatures and is usually composed of hydrogen, oxygen, and silicon. The internal crystalline composition of an Andean opal is quite random. It lacks the fire or the color play that can be found in precious opals. However, this stone has an iridescent quality to it, especially when viewed in light at the best angle. Andean opals are quite rare and can only be found in the Andes Mountains, close to San Patricio, Peru.
